DOMESTIC VIOLENCE EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR VICTIMS
This Domestic Violence Education Program for Victims is a three-hour information and educational program that identifies domestic violence and the negative effects on the family, especially the children. It is designed for the victim of Domestic Violence. The program is for victims of domestic violence who have been taught to believe that the domestic violence is their fault because of what they did or did not do. This belief can come from the manner in which the victim was raised as a child, or as the result of emotional abuse. This program utilizes videos, mini lecture and group interaction. The program includes the following:
The definition and description of domestic abuse and types of abuse.
Domestic violence is not normal and no one should experience it.
Present alternative methods for effective violence free conflict resolution.
The effect of domestic violence on the children both developmentally and mentally.
The need for intervention and prevention.
Awareness of specific behaviors that indicate a person is an abuser.
The Cycle of Violence.
The realization that denial and rationalization enables the cycle to continue.
How to develop a safe plan and what will be needed if they leave suddenly.
Information regarding community and court resources, alternatives and interventions.
