ANGER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR JUVENILE OFFENDERS

This Anger Management Program for Juvenile Offenders is presented by the Mediation and Education Department of the Clerk of Court Office or by an approved provider pursuant to this Administrative Order. It is a three-week program that is designed for juveniles that have committed acts of violence on other juveniles. It is designed for first offenders and minor offenses.

The number of youth involved in crimes of physical violence is increasing. Many youth do not know effective ways to express anger and appropriately handle conflict. In many cases, violence appears to be the direct result of escalating behavior resulting in physical confrontations.

This is a skill-based program to teach youth positive ways to handle conflict. It increases the participants= awareness of what triggers their anger and the choices they have in deciding how to and when to respond to people in different settings. It is psycho-educational and utilizes group interactive participation. Each week consists of a ninety minute session.

The components of the program are as follows:

The importance of anger management to stop anger from building and becoming out of control.

The individual recognizes her or his triggers for anger.

The participants role play situations involving anger responses.

The participants learn positive communications strategies and conflict resolution techniques.
