APPENDIX A TO ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER 5-40.1
ANGER MANAGEMENT
This is an eight week psycho-educational program that defines anger, identifies inappropriate anger responses and informs participants of non violent conflict resolution techniques. This will be accomplished through the use of videos, role-playing, mini lectures, structured group interactions and homework assignments.
Week One:
This will include a program overview to include the outline, group ground rules, any forms authorizing release of information, and the facilitator's expectations. This session will also include the definition of anger and ask participants to describe how they have reacted in the past.
Week Two:
The participants will review and discuss ways of dealing effectively and ineffectively with anger, identify and discuss personal warning signs and high risk situations, and discuss false beliefs about anger.
Week Three:
The participants will review and discuss the role of anger in abusive relationships. The participants will also discuss how personality influences perception and behavior, and techniques to re-frame thoughts.
Week Four:
This session will introduce stress management and the role it plays in anger reactions. The participants will also identify expectations of others.
Week Five:
This session will continue the discussion of stress and techniques to manage stress. This session will also focus on methods of problem solving.
Week Six:
This session will focus on the participants discussing situations which cause angry reactions, and the effects of those angry reactions upon themselves and other people.
Week Seven:
This session will focus on communications and ways to communicate effectively. The participants will learn how assertiveness differs from aggression, and the effects of poor listening skills when attempting to resolve situations. The participants will also learn about the impact of alcohol and other drugs upon their social interactions.
Week Eight:
This session will focus on establishing goals. It will also provide referral sources for continued intervention and support.
