The Tenth Judicial Circuit Courts Domestic Violence Task
Force, chaired by The Honorable Wm. Bruce Smith, is sponsoring a free Domestic Violence
Symposium, from 8 oclock AM until 5 oclock PM, November 15, 2006 at the Stuart
Agriculture Center, 1710 Highway 17 South in Bartow, Florida. Featured speakers include
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Circuit Judge Wm. Bruce Smith, County Judge Michael E.
Raiden and Pat Thomas Police Academy trainer, Tom Gleason.
Mr. Gleason currently trains law enforcement officers throughout Florida and
is a recognized domestic violence expert, specializing in domestic violence issues such as
conducting thorough domestic violence crime screen investigations, identifying the primary
aggressor in domestic violence incidents and enforcing domestic violence injunctions.
Special guest, Kathy Haley will share her life changing experience as the survivor of a
domestic violence near fatality. A multidisciplinary panel of experts, including law
enforcement, prosecutor, defense bar, victim advocate, mental health provider and child
advocate will provide a comprehensive look at domestic violence in our community. The
panel will interact with the audience to develop our communitys response to domestic
violence: how it affects our families and what role audience participants can play in
solving the problem.
