Dixie County was created
in 1921 from the southern regions of Lafayette County. The name honors the lyric
designation of the South. The original county seat was Old Town, later moved to
Cross City. Two roads crossed here at a village originally as Hitchcock. There
are few historic structures in Dixie County.
The current courthouse,
which sits a few blocks east of U. S. 19, is a modern one-story building. Photo by
